On Thursday, Apple Music unveiled a new tool that lets artists make playlists based on their most recent set lists from live performances.
The function, called "Set List," serves as a marketing tool for bands to interact with their fan base. Through this feature, performers can create a playlist from the set list of a single performance, residency, or complete tour. This playlist can then be shared with fans on Apple Music, shown on Shazam's Artist and Concert pages, and shared on social media.
The function is easy to use. In order to be featured as the cover art for the playlist, artists must first contribute an image to their profile. After that, consumers can either paste links to Apple Music or type in a search to select songs. In order to give their followers a preview of their live performances, artists can also choose the exact time they want their audience to listen to the playlist by scheduling the post date. Even tracks can be rearranged by artists to fit their actual show order.
